Stephan was born August 12, 1922 in Coral, Pennsylvania. He was living in Warren, Ohio prior to World War II, and working as a welder at Warren Steel Specialties on Niles Road. He returned to this job following the war. He married and divorced and had no children. In January of 1991 Stephan was killed in a fire that broke out in the boarding house in which he lived in Sandusky, Ohio. He is buried in the veterans’ section of the Perkins Cemetery, Sandusky, Ohio.

Stephan enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on October 7th, 1942. At the time of his discharge we held the rank of Corporal with a specialization as cannoneer, rifleman, heavy gun crewman and field artillery crewman. He saw action in the Pacific Theater, specifically at Northern Solomon Islands (1944), and Okinawa and Ryuku Islands (1945). Stephan was discharged on January 14, 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal.
