Charles Edward Pealer was born in Warren, Ohio on July 28, 1926 to Orla L. and Virginia Frances (Wheeler) Pealer. He attended Warren G. Harding High School, and graduated in June of 1944, shortly before he enlisted in the United States Army.
Charles was inducted in Cleveland, Ohio on October 14, 1944 and graduated from basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida on February 10, 1945. He arrived in France on March 27 and was assigned to Company B, 20th Armored Infantry Brigade, 10th Armored Division under General George S. Patton. On April 2, 1945 Charles advanced through intense enemy fire at Boshac, Germany to warn friendly forces of impending artillery fire. For this act he was awarded the Silver Star. Charles served in Germany and Bavaria in battles at Crailsheim, Ohringer, Schwabisch, Gaildorf, Kercheim, Ulm and in the Alps, and was part of the occupying forces in Garmishpartenkirchen after the German surrender in May of 1945. On August 5, Charles shipped out for Japan, but his destination changed after the United States dropped atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and he returned to the US. He was also awarded the Bronze Star for gallantry in action.
Following the war, Charles attended Kent State University and Case Western Reserve University School of Law, after which he practiced law with his father at Pealer & Pealer, LPA in Warren. He married Stella D. Laboni September 9, 1945, and they had two sons, Lee A. and Terry E. Pealer. Stella passed away on December 17, 1974. Charles married Karen Flanigan July 26, 1975, and they had one son, Christopher J. Pealer.
Charles was a member of First United Methodist Church, Southington American Legion Post 751, Old Erie Lodge #3, F. &A.M. Warren Council #58, F. &A.M. Mahoning Chapter 16, F. &A.M. Warren Commandery #39, Knights Templar, 10th Armored Division veterans Association, veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and the Ohio State Bar Association. Charles played the baritone horn in the Cortland Community Band and the Knoxville Community Band. After his retirement Charles and his wife moved to Sevierville, Tennessee. He passed away on June 23, 2012, and is buried at Champion Township Cemetery.
